Executive Program

EXECUTIVE PROGRAM

The Executive Branch is made up of three areas. The YIG Executive Cabinet is made up of the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer, and the Commissioner of Agriculture. All of these positions are chosen (via popular election) during the previous year’s State Assembly. These members of the Executive Cabinet also serve as the Presiding Officers, along with the Chief of Staff.

The Supporting Officers of the Executive Branch are split into two groups.

Legislative Affairs Directors - APPLY HERE

Legislative Affairs Directors serve as the lobbyist for their Cabinet Member. Under the direction of their Presiding Officers, they will work to pass bills that are the priority of their office. The bill prepare issue briefs on their official’s priorities. They will testify in committee. They will host “office hours” to allow bill authors to ask for their support or input on bills. On behalf of their office, they will work with legislative whips to ensure the legislative Presiding Officers understand the priorities of the cabinet and vice versa.

Department Heads - APPLY HERE

Department Heads will make up the remainder of the Executive Branch. They will become experts in the issue facing their department. They will advocate on behalf of bills their department would like to see become law. They will prepare issue briefs to provide to the Cabinet Officials about their department priorities and issues facing the state. They will testify in committee and cabinet hearings. They will host “office hours” to allow bill authors to ask for their support or input on bills.

  • The Commissioner of Education,
  • The Secretary of State
  • The State Surgeon General
  • The Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection
  • The Secretary of the Department of Children & Families
  • The Secretary of the Department of Juvenile Justice
  • The Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation
  • The Secretary of the Department of Corrections
  • The Secretary of the Department of Transportation
