Florida YMCA Youth In Government

Legislative Program

Legislative Delegates will serve in one of three chambers based on their current grade and number of years of participation in Youth In Government.

BOWEN

This program teaches the skills each delegate needs to fully enjoy the Legislative program in subsequent years. Delegates are exposed to debate, training, public speaking, tours, and most of all, encouragement. Participants in this program have the opportunity to serve not only as Senators & Representatives, but they take on the roles of Page, Clerk, and Presiding Officer. Bowen delegates get the unique opportunity to see the other Youth In Government program areas as well.

SULLIVAN

Senators & Representatives research, write, introduce, debate, and vote on bills that represent issues of interest in their home communities. Working with a co-sponsor prior to State Assembly, these legislators carry on their policy making in the Capitol Building.

WILLIAMS

Senators & Representatives research, write, introduce, debate, and vote on bills that represent issues of interest in their home communities. These legislators carry on their policy making in the beautiful House and Senate chambers of the Capitol, securing co-sponsors, arguing the merits of proposed legislation and passing policy on to the Governor for final passage or veto.
