Requirements for a Chapter
Each Youth in Government Chapter/Club that seeks recognition from Florida YMCA must have the following elements:
High School Chapter/Club:
- Affiliation with the local YMCA or the state YMCA
- An advisor willing to supervise Chapter activities and attend meetings & events
- Complete a Chapter Intent to Participate and pay state dues ($20)
- An annual budget
- A set of elected officers or board of directors – one of whom can be identified, for state purposes, as the “president”
- Regular meeting intervals (once a week, every other week, etc.) and meeting agendas
Middle School Chapter/Club:
- Grades 6, 7, or 8
- An affiliation with the local YMCA
- An advisor willing to supervise Chapter activities and attend meetings & events
- A high school mentor (current High School participant) or Alumni Volunteer, whenever possible
- Complete a Chapter Intent to Participate and pay State dues ($20)
- Regular meeting intervals (once a week, every other week, etc.) during the programmed time
Steps for Registering as a Chapter…
- Form your Chapter.
- You will need to make sure that you can meet the basic criteria listed above. This means that you should already have at least one adult (this can NOT be a high school student) who meets the advisor criteria. You will need this advisor’s help to complete some of the next steps.
- Complete the following:
- Intent to Participate Form – This form will trigger the State Office to reach out to confirm the chapter/club participation.
- Your chapter/club will be pending until confirmed by the state office.
