Requirements for a Chapter

Each Youth in Government Chapter/Club that seeks recognition from Florida YMCA must have the following elements: 

High School Chapter/Club:

  • Affiliation with the local YMCA or the state YMCA
  • An advisor willing to supervise Chapter activities and attend meetings & events
  • Complete a Chapter Intent to Participate and pay state dues ($20)
  • An annual budget
  • A set of elected officers or board of directors – one of whom can be identified, for state purposes, as the “president”
  • Regular meeting intervals (once a week, every other week, etc.) and meeting agendas

 

Middle School Chapter/Club:

  • Grades 6, 7, or 8
  • An affiliation with the local YMCA
  • An advisor willing to supervise Chapter activities and attend meetings & events
  • high school mentor (current High School participant) or Alumni Volunteer, whenever possible
  • Complete a Chapter Intent to Participate and pay State dues ($20)
  • Regular meeting intervals (once a week, every other week, etc.) during the programmed time

 

Steps for Registering as a Chapter…

  1. Form your Chapter.
    • You will need to make sure that you can meet the basic criteria listed above.  This means that you should already have at least one adult (this can NOT be a high school student) who meets the advisor criteria.  You will need this advisor’s help to complete some of the next steps.
  2. Complete the following:
    • Intent to Participate Form – This form will trigger the State Office to reach out to confirm the chapter/club participation. 
  3. Your chapter/club will be pending until confirmed by the state office.
