YPN AWARDS

YPN Chapter 27 seeks to recognize members within the chapter for their individual accomplishments and leadership that strengthens the YMCA movement and our YPN chapter. We would ask that you please take the time to nominate one or more deserving individuals for their outstanding commitment and dedication to the YMCA and YPN in the past year.

This year’s recognition awards will be presented at our Virtual Conference on Dec 9, 2020.

Nomination Process

Please pay attention to any criteria for award categories (time in service, YPN membership, etc). 

Nominations can be made in one of two ways:

  1. Using the nomination form included in this packet and returning it via email to mhlady@suncoastymca.org
  2. Online using this electronic form 

 

Return the completed nomination form along with a brief narrative (100-200 words) detailing the individual’s accomplishments in the nominated category with consideration to factors such as:

  • Positive impact on the community
  • Cause-driven leadership
  • Creativity and innovation
  • Involvement of volunteers
  • Measurable results
  • Creation of professional publications, training designs, presentations, etc.
  • Any award category-specific attributes

The deadline for nominations is Nov 15, 2020.

 

Selection Process

  • The President of YPN Chapter 27 appoints the Recognition Chair. The Chair appoints the selection committee to represent YPN members. Members include board and non-board members, with a minimum of 5 members.
  • Any current member of YPN can nominate any individual (including themselves) for awards for which they meet the criteria.
  • The committee receives nominations, reviews the criteria, and determines each award recipient.
  • Nominees may be selected for awards by the committee other than those nominated for if they meet the criteria.
  • All nominees will be notified by the Recognition Chair via phone call and email.
  • Award recipients will be recognized during our Virtual Conference on December 9, 2020


Award Descriptions

Cause-Driven Leader of the Year

  • Purpose: To recognize YMCA professionals who has inspired and mobilized staff, volunteers, members, and community partners to strengthen communities for all.
  • Criteria: The nominee does not have to be a current YPN Prime member. The nominee must have demonstrated significant, measurable impact on within their community.

The award recipient will receive a complimentary YPN Prime membership for one year if not already a member.

Qualities to consider in narrative/nomination: How has this person gotten outside their YMCA walls to engage and partner within the community? How has this person lead staff and volunteers to strengthen the foundations of community through healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility?

 

Outstanding New Director of the Year

  • Purpose: To recognize a YMCA professional who has given outstanding service during their first 6 to 18 months of employment.
  • Criteria: The nominee must be a full-time employee for at least 6 but not more than 18 months. Must be recognized as a leader among their peers. The nominee does not have to be a current YPN Prime member.

The award recipient will receive a complimentary YPN Prime membership for one year if not already a member.

Qualities to consider in narrative/nomination: What have they done to make an impact on your YMCA? How do they compare to other new Directors? What makes them outstanding? What Cause-Driven Leadership skills have the demonstrated?

 

Outstanding Director of the Year

  • Purpose: To recognize a YPN Prime member and YMCA professional who has achieved excellence during the last year. Minimum of 18 months of YMCA professional employment.
  • Criteria: The nominee must be a full-time YMCA employee for at least 18 months. The nominee does not need to be a YPN Prime member.

The award recipient will receive a complimentary YPN Prime membership for one year if not already a member.

Qualities to consider in narrative/nomination: What have they done to make an impact in the areas of program, staff, volunteer, and community development? How do they compare to other Directors? How have they “made their mark” in the areas they provide leadership? What Cause-Driven Leadership skills have demonstrated?

 

Developing Others Award

  • Purpose: To recognize a YPN Prime member and YMCA professional who has demonstrated exceptional ability in developing staff and volunteers during the last year.
  • Criteria: Nominee must have been a YMCA employee for at least 12 months. The nominee does not need to be a YPN Prime member.

The award recipient will receive a complimentary YPN Prime membership for one year if not already a member.

Qualities to consider in narrative/nomination: What have they done that shows they went the extra mile in helping staff develop? Is there evidence based on staff that have been supervised and have been promoted or recognized for achievements?



YPN Service Award

  • Purpose: To recognize outstanding service to YPN on a local, regional or national level.
  • Criteria: The nominees’ service must have advanced the mission of YPN. The nominee does not need to be a YPN Prime member.

The award recipient will receive a complimentary YPN Prime membership for one year if not already a member.

Qualities to consider in narrative/nomination: What have they done to make an impact within YPN? How have they been involved as a leader in their chapter? What Cause-Driven Leadership skills have the demonstrated?


Emerging Leader

  • Purpose: To recognize future leaders of the YMCA.
  • Criteria: The nominee must be a full-time employee for at least 6 months but no longer than 36 months (does not need to be all full-time service). The nominee does not have to be a YPN Prime member.

*This award will be given to up to 1 YPN member per Association within Chapter 27 annually. Award recipients will receive complimentary conference registration and YPN Prime membership (if not currently a member). Additional mentorship and professional development opportunities will be provided throughout the year.
*** Due to Covid cancellation of "in-person" conference for 2020, all winners of this award for 2019 and 2020 will be given the above benefits in 2021.

Qualities to consider in narrative/nomination: What have they done to make an impact on your YMCA? What makes them outstanding? What Cause-Driven Leadership skills have demonstrated? How have they shown growth in their leadership skills?


YMCA Legacy Award *

  • Purpose: To recognize a YMCA professional who has chosen the YMCA as a lifetime career and who has demonstrated excellence in their chosen field.
  • Criteria: The nominee must either be a current YPN member or have held YPN/AYP membership during their career. The nominee must have at least 20 years of YMCA service. The nominee must either be currently employed by a YMCA or whose tenure at the YMCA was in good standing.

* This award is not awarded each year, only as highly-qualified nominations submitted.
